I’m a journalist based in Auckland, New Zealand. I used to be a food editor and senior writer for a major metropolitan magazine before galavanting about the world on an eating tour that stretched from Ho Chi Minh City to San Sepulchro, Umbria. After a stint in London, I returned to Auckland to freelance last year and now write about everything from pop starlets to the politics of waste.
The idea for this blog came from a weekly gig I have with Wallace Chapman on his drive show on Kiwi FM, ‘What I’m Eating’. It’s where I get to ramble for 10 minutes each Tuesday afternoon* about whatever I happen to be into that week – it might be molecular gastronomy or it might be mussels. Eventually, I realised an online version was a good idea, too.
This blog is for anyone who likes to eat, but it’s not a recipe blog and nor is it a restaurant review – it’s sort of half way between the two. I am just like you: I’m not a chef or a professional but an enthusiastic home cook with a bodgy kitchen, complete with dicky stove, in my rented apartment. I like noodles and curry as much as fine dining. I like organics but can’t always afford them. I have culinary disasters, often, and every so often I just have toast and eggs for dinner.
